Italy
St. Marks Church ("Basilica di San Marco"), on
St. Marks Square. They've got some pretty fresco's and icons in there, as
well as the "palla d'oro", which is a shrine made out of GOLD ($$$ :)) and
silver, and it's got a lot of gems on it.
One of my favourites, this picture was taken from the clocktower, the 'campanile'. It's on St. Marks Square
This is also a picture taken from the
clocktower, but this time you can see the roof of the Basilica di San Marco,
and the rest of Venice.
Well, the name says it all. The Canal Grande,
or the "Canalazzo" as the Venetians call it. You can see the Adriatic See
from here. This picture was taken from the Rialto bridge.
Venice, seen from the Adriatic Sea, you
can see the "Palazzo Ducale" and the clocktower ("Campanile").
The infamous "Rialto Bridge", with a lot
of (expensive) shops on it...I almost fell in the "Canalazzo" when I took
this picture!
Ponte dei sospiri ("the Bridge of Sighing")
This bridge was connected between the dungeons and the
"Palazzo Ducale" (palace of the Doges), which was the court. Every time a
prisoner was brought to the dungeons he'd look out of the tiny windows and
he'd let out a sigh, because it would be a long, long time before he would
see his beloved Venice again.
This is the outside of the bridge.
A picture a friend of mine made. I like the
perspective, but the light is too cold.
A look through the windows - you can see the
Adriatic Sea and a building (it looks like an university to me, but I don't
know what it is).
A look through the windows - you can see a
canal, and a couple of bridges.
VERONA:
Well, this is the famous balcony. Romeo
and Juliet in fact did exist and they did have a relationship. However, contrary to
Shakespeare's rendition of the popular tragic myth, the real Romeo and Juliet
(in Italian: Giulietta) lived happily ever after.
A couple of houses on the island of Burano, it's
an island near Venice, and it's famous for it's lace.
same as above.
MURANO:
A church on the island of Murano (it lies near
Burano and it's famous for it's glass). When we got to the church, we wanted
to see what was inside, but it turned out the church was closed. IT WAS ON A
SUNDAY!!!
