Images of Beautiful Places

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

Beautiful view of Terra Tomah from short trail above Trail Ridge Road.

Alpine meadows at about 12,000 ft. elevation. It was very windy and cold up here on this early July morning. Because of the severe environment, the tundra grows only a few inches above the ground. The mountains across the valley are (from left to right) Terra Tomah, Julian, Cracktop, Chief Chelly (with all the snow), and Mt. Ida.

Yellow lichen on granite rock.

Stone patrol cabin seen on the way up to Chasm Lake. "Ship's Prow", a granite monstrosity, juts out from the surrouning mountains, Mount Meeker and Longs Peak. The air was thin up here at 12,000 ft.

Big Thompson River which flows through Morain Park (on East side of park near Estes Park).

Cub Lake, a relatively unpublicized destination, but one of my favorites during our entire 5-day visit.

Classic lily pads on Cub Lake. I believe that this was the first time I've actually seen lily pads.

Special thanks to Dr. Jim Swaney, Wright State University, Dayton Ohio, for identifying mountain names, and Mr. Roland Reed Jr. for correctly identifying Big Thompson River.
