Royal Gorge Bridge, Colorado

The Royal Gorge Bridge, built in 1929, soars 1200 ft. above the Arkansas River. The bridge span is one quarter of a mile.

Converging ribbons of suspension cables welcome you as you step onto the bridge. You can either walk or drive your car across the bridge. A light, cool breeze keeps us cool on this sunny July morning.

Cool gray metallic tower soars into the deep blue sea above.

Enthusiastic boy toddles across wood plank decking. The 1200-foot-high promenade is lined with an assuring safety fence and flags from all 50 U.S states. The Arkansas River below can be seen by pedestrians through spaces between the wooden planks, some gaps almost an inch wide.

Nice view of the bridge from snack bar on other side of bridge.
