Black Pool takes its name from its color prior to 1991. During 1991 the water temperature rose and killed off dark green and brown thermophiles that gave it its former dark color. Now it is one of Yellowstone's most beautiful and enjoyable pools, especially given its proximity to Yellowstone Lake.
Fishing Cone seeps boiling water from underground sources. According to legend, moutain men were able to catch trout from Yellowstone Lake and then dip them into Fishing Cone to cook without ever having to remove the fish from the line.
