Wet Mountain Valley, Colorado
by Donald A. Klosterman, Ph.D., Dayton, Ohio, USA
Heading south into the Wet Mountain Valley from U.S. Highway 50. This valley is an unspoiled and remote place wedged between the Wet Mountains to the east and the jagged peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Range to the west. Back-country roads provided for some great driving and sight-seeing. We traveled through here during the early afternoon, with storm clouds in the west and north, so my picutures aren't the best possible.
View of the imposing 14,000-foot-high Sangre de Cristo ("Blood of Christ") Mountains from back-country road. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the back-country roads in Colorado were in good condition.
Cows on the horizon.
A pleasant drive indeed.
A special place.
The Wet Mountain Valley floor and majestic Sangre de Cristo Range, beauty at its best!
